Updates on Specialization and Trainings
I have been very busy the past few months, but I did want to give a brief update about some exciting things that I will be doing in 2018 and 2019.
I completed my EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) basic training in February of this year, and am in the process of becoming an EMDRIA approved consultant. I am very happy that I will be able to offer this valuable intervention to my clients. I have already seen remarkable results with my current clients.
If you are unfamiliar with EMDR, this video is a very good explanation for single-trauma EMDR. The technique can also be used with ongoing traumas that have a cumulative negative effect such as being in a toxic relationship.
I am also in the process of becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT.) I have been working on this certification since 2015. It requires 35 hours of supervision, 350 hours of using play therapy techniques with clients and 150 hours of continuing education. It’s a rigorous certification, and a creative, fun and powerful therapeutic approach for all ages. I do play therapy with adults, but it usually involves the stand tray. I have, however, gotten martial arts- quality foam swords if you’re interested.
Here’s a short video about Play Therapy with children. It’s pretty delightful.
Finally, I am proud to announce that I have agreed to be a consultant with the BACH group to proved continuing education for Social Workers. I will be putting together a two half day workshops this summer. The morning session will cover changes to the 2018 NASW Code of Ethics and the afternoon session will be an expanded version of my talk on Professional Burnout that will include drafting a personalized care plan for helping professionals.
Thank you for being with me on this journey! I’m looking forward to serving the community in these new ways.
